A while back I was watching TLC and saw a program about a family that just had their 17th child, (I think they have 18 now). They are the Duggar family, and they had a very efficient way of doing their laundry. For starters they had 4 washers and 4 dryers and a family closet. Yup all of their clothes were in a closet, okay not a closet a room big enough to accommodate all of their clothes.
I thought what a wonderful idea keep all the clothes in one room eliminate dressers and toting clean and dirty clothes all over the house. I came across this website about family closets.
It has a diagram and pictures and links. I am always curious as to how other ladies do their laundry, any ideas? Do ya think the family closet would work?

I have seen washrooms with closets, I would do it in a heartbeat if I had built my washroom. Everyone in this house does laundry and it's still insane.
The thing that has always confused me is this: how exactly does it function? Do you walk in in your panties and get your clothes? Do you carry fresh clothes into the bathroom when you shower and that is where you change? Is your nightgown in your room or in the family closet during the day? We just have one hamper and it is in our room, though, so whatever works...
Wht a great idea to have a family closet. Seriously. If I would have heard about it sooner, perhaps I would have designed it into our new home.
I still think there needs to be a closet for storage in each bedroom, so that there can be a place for everything and the room doesn't become a throw-all room.
I think that it would drive me crazy, that's just the way I am. Of course we have used the closet in Hadden's room for 3 years, maybe that is why the idea turns me off.
I keep all of my kids clean clothes divided between hampers. (cheaper than dressers) One for shirts, one for pants and one for jammies. The socks and underwear are kept together in a drawer. It eliminates folding (what kid needs wrinkle free clothes?!?!) Oh...Sunday Best is hung up. Anyway. NONE of it is in their room where they have access to pull everything out of drawers and dump out hampers. Luckily I have a spare room with a door lock to keep them out! IT WORKS GREAT!!!
And all of their toys are kept in a separate room as well which is the "play room"! The only thing in my boys room in their bed. Pillows. Blankets. Nightlight. Always clean!! :) (okay...beds not always made...but hey! I'm human!)
I know how my kids are with their closets and I know that I would not want to share one with them. It would drive me crazy.
I have recently moved my 3 girls clothes out of their room and into a couple of cupboards in the activity/stamping room which is right next to the laundry room. So far, so good. I should do an updated show and tell soon.
